Chad is a developing country located in north central Africa. It has one of the lowest per capita incomes in the world. The political situation in Chad is unstable and its economic development challenging. After Chadian independence in 1960, the country's institutions and its infrastructure were severely damaged by the following years of war, drought and famine. Visitors should be aware that facilities are underdeveloped. The capital of the country is N'Djamena. Other major cities include Moundou, Abeche and Sarh.
Chadian people are mainly Muslim and their official languages are French and Arabic. The country has a dry season between November and May with temperatures usually ranging from 20C to 25C. Chad's currency is the Communaute Financiere Africaine franc.
